The SS JUMBO is a semi-automatic twin tub rated at 14 kg wash and 7 kg spin. The roller pulsator is driven by a heavy duty 200 W wash motor, with a separate 70 W motor on the spin tub, and the panel carries 5 knobs so wash, rinse, spin and drain are each set directly rather than through a menu.

A waterfall circulates water back over the load instead of letting it sit at the bottom of the tub, and the soak function holds a heavily soiled load in detergent before the wash starts. Four programs — Gentle, Normal, Strong and Heavy — cover everything from a silk kurta to work clothes. The lid is toughened glass, so you can see the load without stopping the machine, and there is a detergent box built into the tub.

It runs on an ordinary AC 230 V 50 Hz supply through a single water inlet, holds up to 132 litres at maximum water level, and the cabinet measures 913 × 560 × 1055 mm. Colour: Brown.

How to use it

Getting the best out of a twin tub

  1. Stand the machine level on all four feet before the first wash — a machine that rocks puts the load on the spin tub bearing rather than the chassis.
  2. Fill to the water level mark for the load, not past it. Above the maximum the pulsator cannot move the water and the wash gets worse, not better.
  3. Add detergent to the detergent box and let it dissolve for a minute before the clothes go in.
  4. Use the soak function for heavily soiled work clothes, then run Strong or Heavy; use Gentle for silk, wool and anything hand-wash only.
  5. Move the load to the spin tub in two goes rather than one on the larger machines — the spin tub is smaller than the wash tub on every twin tub.
  6. Drain the machine fully after every wash and leave the lid open for an hour so both tubs dry.

Run it from an earthed socket on a 230 V 50 Hz supply. Never move the machine with water in either tub.

It is the dry weight of clothes the wash tub takes in one load — not the weight of the machine, and not wet laundry. As a guide, 14 kg suits a large or joint household, and takes curtains and quilts you would otherwise send out.

On every twin tub the spin tub is physically smaller than the wash tub, so it takes 7 kg against the wash tub's 14 kg. That is normal, not a shortfall — move a full wash load across in two goes and the spin cycle is only 10 minutes each time.

The pulsator is the moulded disc at the base of the wash tub that moves the water. A star pulsator creates a strong central swirl and is very effective on ordinary cottons. A roller pulsator pushes the load in a wider, gentler circulation, which handles a mixed or heavier load with less tangling. This machine uses a roller pulsator.
