The SS Sona Talky 7 Kg grinds a 7 kg hopper of grain at home, which is the only way to keep the bran, the germ and the oils that commercial atta loses sitting on a warehouse shelf. Being a Talky model, it says out loud what it is doing, so nobody has to stand and watch an indicator light.

Grinding is done by an MS cutter working against a six-blade MS bitter, over a stainless steel hopper and platform that will not rust or hold flour from the last batch. I-Sensor technology watches the load and adjusts rather than labouring against a full hopper, and the air-cooled filter keeps flour dust out of the motor and out of the room.

The cabinet carries a decorative printed panel, so in an open kitchen it reads as a piece of furniture rather than a machine. It is covered by 1 Year Product Warranty + 5 Years Motor Warranty.

How to use it

Grinding well

Clean and dry the grain before it goes into the hopper, and pick out stones. The cutter and the bitter are hardened steel, but a stone is still a stone.
Fill the hopper to its marked capacity, not past it.
Let the machine rest between long runs rather than grinding back to back.
Keep the air-cooled filter clear so the motor breathes — a blocked filter is the usual cause of a machine running hot.
Empty the flour chamber completely between different grains so nothing carries over.
Wipe the stainless steel hopper and platform dry after cleaning; never wash the motor housing.

It is the hopper capacity — how much grain the machine takes in one fill, not how much it can grind in a day. A 5 kg machine suits a household of three or four grinding once a week; a 7 kg machine suits a larger or joint family, or anyone who prefers to grind a fortnight at a time.

It is load sensing. The machine reads how hard the cutter is working and adjusts, rather than labouring at a constant speed against a full hopper. In practice it means a more even grind and less heat in the motor, which is what a five-year motor warranty is built on.

Wheat, and the other dry grains and pulses an Indian kitchen mills — provided they are clean, dry and free of stones. Empty the flour chamber between different grains so nothing carries over. It is not intended for wet grinding or for oilseeds.
