Washing Machines
Semi-automatic twin-tub washing machines from 7 kg to 14 kg, with a toughened glass lid, heavy duty motor, waterfall rinse, soak function and a 5 year warranty on the wash motor.
A semi-automatic twin tub is still the machine that makes the most sense in most Indian homes: it uses a fraction of the water a fully automatic needs, it does not care about an unreliable inlet pressure, it washes a heavy load faster, and there is very little on it to go wrong. The SS range runs from a 7 kg machine for a couple up to a 14 kg machine that will take a week's washing for a family in one go.
Every model shares the same fundamentals: a detergent box, a toughened glass lid so you can see the load without stopping it, a heavy duty wash motor, a waterfall rinse that circulates water back over the clothes instead of letting it sit, a single water inlet, a soak function for anything stubborn, and four wash programs — Gentle, Normal, Strong and Heavy. They run on an ordinary AC 230 V 50 Hz supply and hold up to 132 litres at maximum water level.
Every SS washing machine carries a 5 Years Warranty on the Wash Motor, which is the part that decides whether a machine sees out a decade.

Sizing a semi-automatic washing machine
The wash figure is the dry weight of clothes the wash tub will take, not the weight of the machine or of wet laundry. As a rule of thumb: 7 kg suits one or two people, 9.5 kg suits a family of three or four, 11.5 to 12 kg covers a family of four to six including bedding, and 14 kg is for a large household, a joint family, or anyone who washes curtains and quilts at home rather than sending them out.
The spin figure is always lower than the wash figure because the spin tub is smaller — that is normal on every twin tub, not a shortfall. Move the load across in two goes on the larger machines.
Star pulsator or roller pulsator
The pulsator is the moulded disc at the base of the wash tub that moves the water. A star pulsator creates a strong central swirl and is very effective on ordinary cottons. A roller pulsator pushes the load in a wider, gentler circulation, which handles a mixed or heavier load with less tangling. The 12 and 14 kg machines in this range use roller pulsators for exactly that reason.
Getting a longer life out of it
Do not overfill past the maximum water level mark, drain the machine fully after every wash, leave the lid open for an hour to let the tubs dry, and keep the machine level on all four feet so the spin tub is not fighting the chassis. Looked after that way, the 5 year wash motor warranty is a floor rather than a ceiling.
